Periscope is a fairly new platform for social media, but already people are going to the app in droves. The live streaming app, which is completely free to use, has a huge number of benefits, but it also has some annoying features. Here are three annoying things about Periscope, and how you can fix them.
Too many notifications
For those who follow a large number of people, it can be annoying when several of them scope throughout the day. If you can’t stand seeing all the notifications in your inbox, you can simply turn them off and later search the list of people you follow to see if they’ve put out a scope within the past 24 hours.
Since you can’t really turn off the notifications that you send (they automatically go out when you begin a broadcast) you may want to rely on other social media networks to get in touch with those followers who don’t use their notifications (because they don’t want to be overwhelmed by them.) The app lets you notify your Twitter followers immediately upon beginning a broadcast, but with planning, you could simply post a message to all of your relevant social media platforms and tell your followers what time you’ll be scoping.
Too many viewers blocks comments
When you scope, if your broadcast gets too many viewers the app will block all but the first 100 users. This can be a blessing or a curse, depending on how you look at it. If you find it difficult to reply to 100 commenters while scoping, it may be a relief to know you only have a hundred people to communicate with.
However, if you don’t want to miss any important questions, it can seem like a hindrance. There are workarounds. If your followers click on a comment and choose to reply, they can delete the original commenter’s username and claim the comment box as their own. Or, they can simply exit and re-enter repeatedly until the “broadcast too full” message is no longer showing.
Marketers are clamouring right now to get onto live streaming apps like Periscope and Meerkat and everyone is currently very excited for all the possibilities that it offers them.
The main advantage to something like Periscope as far as a marketer is concerned is that it will allow them to find a new audience in a space that currently isn’t over saturated. Create fitness content? Then you’re probably only competing with around 3 other vloggers on Meerkat and you can bet that every video you upload will result in large numbers of new followers. This is very exciting and something that you really shouldn’t underestimate the value of.
New Products and Services
If you’re looking for a new digital product or service you can offer, then imagine the potential for seminars and conferences through something like Blab. This way you can teach your audience in an almost one-to-one session once they’ve paid for entry and this can offer a lot more value than simply watching some pre-recorded videos. How much would you pay to get to ask questions directly to your favorite blogger?
You can also use live video to directly sell products and this is something you can do right now. Better yet, people can ask you questions about the product and ask to see different features live on air!
Of course this interaction also gives you a perfect way to survey your audience, to learn what they like and don’t like about your products and to generally provide better quality service.
If you join in with a ‘blab’ then you’ll instantly be seen by all the followers that follow that other user. If you make a good impression this is a fantastic form of influencer marketing that can gain you huge numbers of followers.
As a new seller it can take a while to start getting regular orders. Ideally, you can work up to 10 or more orders per day, or whatever you can reasonably accommodate. These tips may help a new seller get up and selling fast.
Fiverr is set up for your success. You can create amazing gigs, and you can earn a good amount of money from Fiverr -- so much so that you could quit your job. You just have to figure out which types of gigs to sell. Remember to consider your audience, solve their problems using the skills you most like using. After all, if you’re going to spend your life doing it, you should also enjoy it.
Live video apps have taken the world by storm.
What’s really made them so interesting though is not so much what they’re doing right now, as the incredible potential that they hold. People are really only just scratching the surface right now of what can be done with these apps and this means there’s a ton of potential out there for you to tap into.
Here are some of the top uses for live videos that could really change the world:
Security and Armed Forces
Live video apps could completely change the way that we handle security. Imagine if you have 5 guards on duty, each at a different point around the venue.
There’s no reason that you can get each of them to film what they’re seeing, thereby allowing their colleagues to provide automatic backup when it’s needed.
Imagine how television could be enhanced through live streaming. You could watch live TV while also having a secondary view of the same event through an app.
This is something that broadcasting companies could make great use of!
Meerkat describes its app as being the ‘closest thing to teleportation’. With that then, the mind begins to wonder regarding all the amazing things you could see through the platform.
Imagine being able to check out the pyramids in Giza, or being able to see the Grand Canyon. Better yet, imagine getting to see life through the eyes of someone who works in the Eiffel Tower – and imagine the promotional benefit this could have for tourism companies.
Of course tourism isn’t the same as just watching a video, but this is where apps like Periscope are truly able to come into their own. You can ask the person filming to direct the camera at points of interest and you can chat to strangers in bars – just as though you were there in person!
Live video streaming is such a new platform that right now, there’s not really any ‘right way’ to go about it. This is a platform that’s open to be explored and that we can start creating content for however we best see fit.
But that said, there are still some pointers that you can learn from that can help you to start creating the best content possible and there are certainly some mistakes to avoid as well. Quality content is quality content, no matter what form it takes.
Read on then and we’ll look at some of the top tips for creating better video content for your live streams…
One way in which live video is very different from regular video marketing, is that you are likely to have a lot of people coming into your videos halfway through. That means they won’t get your normal ‘pitch’ at the start and they won’t necessarily even know what it is that you’re talking to.
This is someth8ing to bear in mind – your objective is to hold the attention of everyone who has been their from the start but at the same time you need to be welcoming to new visitors. One way to get around this challenge is to include a good description of what your video is about.
Stay on Subject
Some vlogs are built around the personality of the vlogger who will then just talk on whatever subjects come to mind as a way to provide some interesting background chat for people who want to half-watch. This is difficult to succeed with though and a generally smarter strategy is just to stick to one main topic that people will know whether they find interesting or not.
Likewise, try to stay on topic with each of the videos you post. This way people will know that they can start following you if they want more of a certain type of content.
Periscope broadcasts, or scopes, are a great way to engage with your audience, build authority and grow your following. The beauty of the platform is its versatility; you can do many different types of videos and still get your message across. Here are three types of scope you can use to boost your business and grow your audience.
